On 22 April 2013, on the outskirts of Aleppo, the Metropolitan of Aleppo, Mor Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim, with his fellow Metropolitan Paul Yazigi, was abducted by an unidentified group of men. Amidst all the ensuing confusion and accusations, despite the efforts of many involved in this case, there has been no resolution. They have all faced a deafening wall of silence. We hope this book will help revive efforts to bring about the long awaited release of a truly international shepherd. At this tempestuous time Mor Gregorios is much needed by his church and nation.

This Festschrift marks the lapse of three years since the abduction. It benefits from 100 contributors world-wide who share with us their memories of Mor Gregorios. The contributors have produced a beautiful tapestry of the world of Mor Gregorios.

April 2013 wurde am Stadtrand von Aleppo der Metropolit von Aleppo, Mor Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim, zusammen mit seinem Mitmetropoliten Paul Yazigi von einer unbekannten Gruppe bewaffneter Männer entführt. Inmitten all der darauffolgenden Verwirrung und Anschuldigungen ist es trotz der Bemühungen vieler an diesem Fall Beteiligter zu keiner Lösung gekommen. Alle stießen auf eine ohrenbetäubende Wand des Schweigens. Wir hoffen, dass dieses Buch dazu beitragen wird, die Bemühungen um die lange erwartete Freilassung eines wahrhaft internationalen Hirten neu zu beleben. In dieser stürmischen Zeit wird Mor Gregorios von seiner Kirche und seinem Land dringend gebraucht.

Diese Festschrift markiert den Ablauf von drei Jahren seit der Entführung. Sie vereint die Beiträge von 100 Mitwirkenden aus aller Welt, die ihre Erinnerungen an Mor Gregorios mit uns teilen. Die Autorinnen und Autoren haben ein wunderschönes Mosaik der Welt von Mor Gregorios geschaffen.

Vi hoppas att denna bok ska bidra till att återuppliva ansträngningarna att åstadkomma den länge efterlängtade frigivningen av en verkligt internationell herde.
